New Brand Identity: Lauren Dahlhauser Photography

We love creating brand identities for small business owners and creative entrepreneurs, and watching their businesses flourish. That’s why we couldn’t help ourselves. We had to share with you all our most recent work and first concept we presented—Lauren Dahlhauser Photography’s minimal, earthy, and refined brand identity. We’re swooning over the logo, hand illustration, and the submark.

Lauren Dahlhauser is a Midwest-based natural light, lifestyle portrait, and destination wedding photographer. She captures real, candid moments and raw emotion in every session. She has shot photography for numerous years under her name, but wanted a visually appealing brand that spoke to her ideal clients.

When we were reviewing Lauren’s client brand questionnaire, we noted she wanted something memorable and detailed, yet simple, organic, and earthy.  We wanted to design a brand that elevated her above her competitors.

So, we set out to design a professional logo and visual identity that established honesty, adventure, and raw, emotional moments to connect with Lauren’s potential clients.

The photographer’s new logo and and visual identity displays a professional, minimal, adventurous, and whimsical vibe which reflects Lauren's personality and photography business, and incorporates an earthy color palette of black, white, warm gray, and a surprise pop of maroon—Lauren's favorite color.

In the logo, Lauren Dahlhauser is showcased with the full name Lauren Dahlhauser Photography, including a hand-illustration of mountain laurel and its leaves.

We also provided Lauren a whimsical script font to display Lauren's submark—LD. This can be used as a supplement graphic, favicon for her website, or for a smaller real estate in print or digital.

Next, we created a hand-illustration as a unique mark for her brand, allowing her brand to be set apart from other photographers in the industry. The illustration can be set apart from the logo as a supplement graphic for her brand. It can also be displayed in any of Lauren’s brand colors.

And, now for our favorite—the concept. Casey illustrated a mountain laurel—an evergreen plant that grows in mountainous landscapes and forest areas. Most importantly, this plant is symbolic for ambition and perseverance, and is believed to hold power of creativity and inspiration according to Greek and Roman cultures. Perfect for Lauren’s business and personality.

When we first talked to Lauren about her brand, she knew how important it was to have a brand that would stood out against her competitors and a professional, cohesive look and feel for her photography business. Even if this isn’t the final product— with some collaboration and tweaks along the way, we’re excited to see Lauren’s brand come together.

Lauren may have known she needed to update her small businesses branding, but do you? A lot of you may not recognize your need to create a brand or even conduct a rebrand for your small business.
